What to expect: Your choice of Bergen
The historic heart of Bergen
Our journey begins with an introduction to Bergen’s rich history. We pass through the medieval Bergenhus Fortress, the iconic UNESCO-listed Bryggen embankment, and the bustling Hanseatic quarters. Your guide will share stories of how the city evolved from a trading post to the cultural capital of the fjords.
Customizing your experience
The second part of the tour is where you decide the focus. You can choose one of the following popular options, or talk to your guide about a special request:
Option 1: Edvard Grieg’s Troldhaugen – Visit the beautiful villa and gardens where Norway’s most famous composer lived and worked.
Option 2: Royal Residence & Stave Church – See the King’s residence at Gamlehaugen and visit the mysterious Fantoft Stave Church, a masterpiece of medieval wooden architecture.
Option 3: Old Bergen Open-Air Museum – Step back in time among 40 historic wooden houses that recreate the atmosphere of 18th and 19th-century Bergen.
Option 4: Panoramic Heights – If the weather is clear, we can drive to a viewpoint or take you to the base of the cable cars for a quick trip to the summits surrounding the city.

During a 3-hour tour we can offer following choices:
Option 1:
A trip to Edvard Grieg’s museum and villa Troldhaugen, where the great composer lived and worked (entrance tickets required). The museum visit will take a little over one hour as we will see several places on the property: the exhibition and souvenir shop, the villa itself, the composer’s hut, the concert hall and the burial place. You will learn about the life of this unique composer and enjoy the pretty place where he decided to build a villa in 1885.
Option 2:
A stop at the Royal residence in Bergen – Gamlehaugen, where the King and the Royal family stays when they are visiting Bergen (no entrance to the house). We will have a short walk to the villa to enjoy the view into the royal park and the fjord. On our way back to Bergen centre, we will make a short stop at Fantoft stave church – a wooden church built in a typical style on Norwegian medieval wooden architecture.
Option 3:
A trip to the Old Bergen museum – a town inside a town. The museum consists of over 40 wooden buildings from 18th and 19th centuries. We will visit the old bakery, drug store, old dentist’s office, a sailor’s home, the party house, an old school and other quaint houses (entrance tickets required).
Option 4:
None of the above and something special. Your driver-guide would like to know your interests and what you would like to see and visit. Maybe finding great photo opportunities around the city, or taking the cable car to Mount Ulriken and a short hike to the top of Bergen’s tallest mountain – 2109 feet ASL (643 meters ASL). We can decide on spot and make it a unique experience.
Frequently asked questions about the city tour (FAQ)
Are museum tickets included in the price?
No, entrance fees to museums (like Troldhaugen or Old Bergen) and funicular/cable car tickets are not included. This allows you to decide on the spot which sights you actually want to enter.
Which car will we be using?
For groups of 4–7 people, we use a premium Mercedes minivan. For smaller groups of 1–3 people, we often use our Tesla Model X. All vehicles are air-conditioned and licensed for passenger transport.
Can we start the tour from the cruise ship port?
Yes, we offer complimentary pick-up and drop-off at all main hotels in the city center and the Bergen cruise port (Skolten or Dokken).
